The art auction house, reacting to last week’s resignation of a top official, said it has retained an outside law firm to give advice in an internal review of auction practices and procedures. Christopher Burge, president of Christie’s New York, said the company will take a “detailed look at all our business practices” and will adopt new policies if needed. David Bathurst resigned his post as chairman of the company’s New York and London operations after admitting that he falsely reported sales of paintings in 1981 to improve market prices.
