Viacom International Inc., a diversified entertainment and communications company, has created an office of the chief executive within its entertainment group, citing a major expansion of the group’s activities.

Group President Melvin (Bud) Getzler was promoted to chairman and will share the executive office with Jules Haimovitz, who was promoted to president from executive vice president. Getzler will continue to oversee Viacom Entertainment’s West Coast operations from the company’s Los Angeles headquarters, while Haimovitz will be based in New York.

Viacom Entertainment operates Viacom’s 50% stake in the pay-TV service Showtime/The Movie Channel and is involved in production, distribution and licensing of programming and films for television.
