Boris Becker of West Germany ran his winning streak to 15 matches with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Francesco Cancellotti of Italy Thursday in the U.S. Open Clay Court championships at Indianapolis.

Ivan Lendl also advanced to the quarterfinals, while Stanford student Kate Gompert reached the women’s semifinals by upsetting defending champion Manuel Maleeva of Bulgaria.

The No. 3-seeded Becker had 11 aces and held his serve throughout his 68-minute match. “I think I played better today,” said the 17-year-old Wimbledon champion, who needed three sets and survived five match points in his opening match. “But not good enough to beat my next opponent.”

In another women’s match, No. 2 Zina Garrison needed three sets to defeat U.S. Junior Federation Cup winner Anna Ivan, 6-7, 6-1, 6-3.

Johan Kriek, winning the final 11 games, posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Danie Visser of South Africa in the quarterfinals of the $125,000 Volvo championships at Livingston, N.J.
