The search may be over for the director of Eddie Murphy’s next movie, “The Golden Child.” In recent weeks, negotiators have been feverishly trying to strike a deal for George Miller, extremely hot because of “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.”

It’s a comedy-action-adventure in which Murphy is hired to find the missing golden child, a born leader of the people of India who is kidnaped.

Sources say Murphy is an avowed fan of the Mad Max movies. Said a Miller friend: “They’ve met twice and another meeting is being set right now. George feels that with Eddie, this is the right idea at the right time with the right person.”

Because of the elaborate special effects required for the film, there’s concern that Miller might not be able to have the picture ready for next summer as Paramount had hoped. “It’s entirely possible it might not come out until Christmas,” says one insider. If so, Paramount’s main man will have been absent from the screen for a whopping 24 months.
