Brea : Bingo Players May Get More Time and Prizes

Share

Serious bingo players in the city may see longer hours and higher stakes.

At the request of the Brea Booster Foundation, which raises money for extracurricular activities at Brea-Olinda High School, City Council members will consider increasing the time that residents can play by 90 minutes and raising the total prize money in one evening from $1,500 to $5,000, Police Chief Don Forkus said.

The current ordinance allows bingo one night a week from 7 to 11 p.m. The Booster Foundation asked that the starting time be changed to 5:30 p.m., Forkus said.

The foundation also asked that the city adopt the state law’s limit of allowing $250 per game, Forkus said. The current city ordinance allows a maximum of $1,500 per night. Because foundation officials expect each bingo night to include 20 games, Brea City Council members will consider raising the stakes to a limit of $5,000 a night, Forkus said.

Council members agreed last week to give the issue a public hearing Aug. 6, City Clerk Donna Rhine said.
