Buena Park : Second Hearing to Be Held on Condo Project

Share

Residents who jammed City Council chambers last month to get their say on a proposed condominium project near Knott’s Berry Farm will get another chance to share their opinions during a Planning Commission meeting Wednesday.

But no final decision is expected on the 290-unit complex north of La Palma Avenue between Stanton Avenue and Dale Street if commission members grant the developer’s request for a continuance to December.

“We want to try to put together a plan that’s more acceptable to everyone,” said Harold Lynch Jr., a partner in RecreAction Inc. of Newport Beach.

Neighboring residents have complained that the $28-million complex on a 10.6-acre parcel would create traffic congestion, add more students to the schools and provide an unacceptable number of low-cost housing units.

Lynch said the three-story project would include affordable housing with prices ranging from $84,000 to $133,000.

The condominiums would be the first phase of a development in the 18.8-acre area, half of which is zoned for commercial use, Lynch said.

The property currently is used to grow strawberries and the owner plans to sell his land to the development firm, said Ken Griffith, a city planning administrator.

The Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. in the Buena Park Recreation Center.
