Jafra Cosmetics Inc., a Westlake Village division of the Gillette Co., named Ronald D. Clark its president. He replaces Thomas Grant, 60, who retired last December. Clark, 50, previously was a vice president for Avon Products Inc. in New York, responsible for field sales in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Spain. He said Jafra is at a stage of growth similar to that of Avon several years ago. “I’ve been there before,” Clark said. “I can focus on strategic planning techniques I’m bringing from Avon.”

Jafra manufactures more than 160 skin care and beauty products marketed around the world by a door-to-door sales force. Differing from Avon’s strategy, however, Jafra sells its products exclusively through beauty-education classes in people’s homes, Clark said. Jafra reported worldwide sales of more than $100 million in 1984.

Richard Woolsey was named a regional sales manager for Avecor Inc., a San Fernando supplier of color concentrates and liquids for the plastics industry. Woolsey will be based in Ohio, with responsibility for an 11-state area in the East and Midwest.
