The city has purchased the 13-acre site of the former Eva D. Edwards Junior High School through its Redevelopment Agency. About 10 acres will be developed into 75 single-family homes and the remainder of the land is to be used to build a residence for about 100 senior citizens.

The site on Covina Boulevard near Citrus Avenue was declared surplus by the Covina Unified School District because of declining enrollment.
