Cross-Country Bike Race--Jim DeGraffenreid of Long Beach was on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia Wednesday morning, 730 miles from completing the 3,136-mile bicycle Race Across America. He was 16th among 17 cyclists (eight others have dropped out) and was not expected to finish in Atlantic City, N.J., until early Friday. Jonathan Boyer of Pebble Beach, who won the race in a record 9 days 2 hours and 6 minutes, finished Tuesday.

Pitching for Hospital--Dodger pitcher Tom Niedenfuer has donated $1,300--representing $1,000 for each of his victories and saves last season--to the Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downey. Niedenfuer will be honorary chairman of the center’s Spinal Injury Games, a wheelchair athletic competition, Aug. 10 at the center at 7601 E. Imperial Highway.

Oarsmen at Festival--Kevan Vance and John Boyle, varsity oarsmen on the Cal State Long Beach rowing team, are competing at the National Sports Festival in Baton Rouge, La. They were selected after a strong performance at the National Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
