The Santa Monica-Malibu Board of Education has begun its search for a new superintendent.
Derek Marlow, of the Arthur Young & Associates executive search firm, this week discussed the selection process with the board, which has agreed to solicit community and staff comment.
At its Aug. 12 meeting, which begins an hour early, at 6 p.m., the board will hear from representatives of labor unions, school district advisory committees and local PTA presidents who will discuss the qualifications they want in a new superintendent. Public hearings will be held Sept. 16 in Santa Monica and Sept. 18 in Malibu.
The board is seeking a superintendent to replace Dr. George Caldwell, who is scheduled to retire in June, 1986, but may leave earlier.
