34 Treated at Hospitals After Chemical Spill
Thirty-four people were taken to hospitals and 15 others were treated by paramedics at the scene Friday when a chemical container spilled in a United Parcel Service warehouse in the Boyle Heights area, the Los Angeles City Fire Department reported.
Many of those taken to White Memorial Hospital, County-USC Medical Center and California Hospital were suffering burning sensations in their lungs, nausea and irritation of their eyes, noses and throats, medical personnel said. None of the victims appeared to be seriously injured.
About 150 employees had to be evacuated when the one-gallon container of what Division Fire Chief Ray Rojo identified as bromine leaked in the large warehouse at 3000 E. Washington Blvd. shortly before noon.
