Guards Foil Iran Air Hijacking

NICOSIA, Cyprus —
Security guards foiled an attempted hijacking aboard an Iranian jetliner today, shooting one would-be hijacker to death and capturing his accomplice, the official Iranian news agency IRNA said.
The attempted hijacking occurred on an Iran Air flight from Tehran to Bandar Abbas in the south of Iran, the news agency said. Iranian jetliners began carrying in-flight security guards after a series of hijackings last summer.
