A four-hour riot was quelled in Shasta County Jail in Redding, where 34 inmates used mattresses and bed sheets to barricade themselves on the second level. The incident ended without injury when the inmates returned to their cells, jail officials said. Cause of the riot was under investigation, but early reports indicated that an argument erupted between several inmates and guards during the night.
