‘55-Limit Is Unenforceable’

Share

Before going back to a proven killer, the 65-speed limit, we should first debate in Congress why the slaughter on our streets and highways is allowed to continue. And it is being allowed.

Henley, in her argument for increasing the speed limit, never once mentioned the 50,000 deaths (and funerals) that occur every year in this country. Nor did she even hint at the thousands of widows and thousands of orphans whose lives are tragic as a result of speed in excess of 55 m.p.h.

One thousand deaths a week. It’s been going on for years and years. But who talks about it?
