Local News in Brief : Car Lights Go On During Day in Kanan Road Safety Effort

Share

A”lights on” safety campaign for accident-plagued Kanan Road drew a quick response this week as hundreds of motorists began using their headlights along the twisting, 12-mile mountain route.

Signs advising motorists to turn on their headlights during the day to reduce the traffic danger were ordered erected Tuesday by Los Angeles County supervisors. The move followed the posting of a 16-foot skull-and-crossbones warning on a billboard next to Kanan Road last week by Agoura Hills businessman Arthur Whizin.

Accidents on the popular beach route have claimed five lives this summer. Last month, supervisors approved use of radar by the California Highway Patrol to enforce speed laws on the road. The radar unit is expected to be in use in about two months.
