Airport Proposal

Share

The airport agreement now being negotiated does not fairly protect Newport Beach residents.

A binding agreement to end the controversy and lawsuits over the expansion of John Wayne Airport is a desirable objective-- if it is fair to all concerned.

Let’s look at one provision--but a major and unacceptable one. The agreement would mandate a terminal of not less than 360,000 square feet. The present terminal is admittedly inadequate, but it is now handling 55 flights a day. Do we really need a terminal 10 times that size?

A final question and the basic one: Once having invested in a massive, expensive terminal, will an additional airport really be built here in the county? Such an additional airport with its own terminal is Newport Beach’s only salvation.
