A former U.S. Border Patrol agent accused of abducting a Mexican youth and subjecting him to two days of terror has been sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to kidnaping. Robert M. Ferrick, 24, entered the plea July 11 in return for the promise of a suspended state prison term and the dismissal of charges of attempted extortion and assault with a deadly weapon. Municipal Judge Robert S. Fox spared Ferrick from a state prison term but added three years’ probation to a term of 180 days in the Imperial County Jail. The 14-year-old victim said he was taken against his will in May to a remote desert area west of Calexico, where Ferrick forced him to undress, handcuffed him and cut off his hair. The victim claimed that the incident followed his apprehension for illegal entry into the United States.
