Taking the lead on the 24th lap, Karl Hacker of Castleton, N.Y., won the 25-lap Firestone Firehawk Compact race at Riverside International Raceway Saturday. Hacker averaged 78.162 m.p.h.

Second place in the International Motor Sports Assn.-sanctioned one-hour event went to Hacker’s brother, Paul, of Valatie, N.Y., just .352 of a second behind. Ron Christensen of Salt Lake City was third.

All of the top 10 finishers in the event drove Volkswagen Golf sedans.

The series is for cars directly off the showroom floor, modified only for safety. In the five-race endurance series, only four cars have failed to finish a race.
