Guard Joe DeLamielleure, a member of the Electric Company that “turned on the juice” during O.J. Simpson’s record season with the Buffalo Bills, was cut by the Cleveland Browns, jeopardizing his streak of 175 consecutive games played.
Among other notable players cut Monday were veteran wide receiver Alfred Jackson of the Atlanta Falcons, safety Jeff Nixon of the Bills, and quarterback Wayne Peace, a castoff from the the United States Football League who had signed as a free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals.
DeLamielleure teamed with linemen Reggie McKenzie, Mike Montler, Dave Foley and Donnie Green and tight end Paul Seymour in 1973 to open the holes for Simpson when he rushed for 2,003 yards, a record surpassed last season by the Rams’ Eric Dickerson, who gained 2,105 yards.
