Local News in Brief : Ventura Supervisor Pleads Not Guilty
Aplea of not guilty was entered Tuesday for Ventura County Supervisor Edwin A. Jones to charges of lewd conduct and indecent exposure stemming from a June 12 incident at a Studio City motel.
Jones, 54, did not attend the brief arraignment in San Fernando Municipal Court. A trial was scheduled for Sept.17.
Police reports say Jones stood naked outside a room at the Charles Motel on Ventura Boulevard and made a lewd gesture to a 22-year-old woman standing across the motel’s courtyard.
Each charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The 10 1/2-year veteran of the Board of Supervisors has maintained that he is innocent of both criminal misdemeanor charges. He resigned as board chairman June 21 after charges were filed by the Los Angeles city attorney’s office but continued to serve as supervisor for the 2nd District, which includes Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park and south Camarillo.
