The Stockton City Council appointed a new councilman to fill the few remaining months of the council term of Mayor Randall Ronk, who was ousted Aug. 1. Council members voted 7 to 1 to name Walter Kendall III to the post. Kendall, owner of an office supply company, said he probably will not be a candidate in November’s municipal election. The council voted last month to expel Ronk from the council for filing $2,912 in travel claims that he admitted were false. However, Ronk had been acquitted earlier by a Superior Court jury of 10 felony charges accusing him of misappropriating city funds. Ronk contended that he spent the money on a private investigation of a political rival, Councilman Ralph Lee White.
