Walter W. Hale, a 50-year-old Northern California school administrator, will replace Supt. Hugh Cameron on Sept. 1 as head of the South Bay Union High School District, Trustee Josh Fredricks said Wednesday. Fredricks said the school board will meet at 6 p.m. today to confirm the appointment.

Hale, superintendent of the Acalanes Union High School District near Oakland, was selected from a list of more than 60 candidates for the South Bay post, Fredricks said. He said Hale, who received his doctorate in education from USC, was the unanimous choice of the board and will receive an annual salary of $72,000.
