Los Alamitos : Look Into Crystal Ball Predicts Lifting of Ban

Share

Two business license applications from fortunetellers and a recent court ruling have prompted the city to consider lifting a ban on such businesses.

City Atty. Tom Allen said he hopes to recommend a new ordinance to the City Council which will probably restrict the seers to shopping center areas, require no criminal record and prohibit use of the business as a residence.

Two applications, submitted by Bob Adams of El Monte and Nick Lee of Paramount, are on hold pending the council’s action. Allen said he doesn’t expect the new ordinance to spark “a deluge of applications.”

Los Alamitos follows several other cities which have revised laws after a state appellate court ruling striking down a ban in the city of Azusa. The case is before the state Supreme Court, but several cities, anticipating a similar ruling, have already repealed their bans, including Anaheim, San Juan Capistrano and Huntington Beach.
