Ex-Disc Jockey Found Guilty of Pandering

A former late-night disc jockey for country-music radio station KLAC was convicted today of pandering for seeking to recruit a 26-year-old listener and her 7-year-old daughter to perform sex acts in pornographic films.

Carlton (Corky) Mayberry, 46, who will be sentenced by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Roberta Ralph on Sept. 18, held the discussions, one of which was taped by police, on a call-in line at the station between his on-air introductions of songs.

Mayberry, who authorities said described himself as a “middleman” for pornographic film makers, was arrested after meeting at the station with an undercover officer who posed as the listener.

After the verdict, Mayberry, who now works as an office manager for a doctor, said, “I’m just in a state of shock right now.” During his four-day trial, Mayberry testified that the woman had called him several times in the past and discussed sexual fantasies and that he was “just playing along” and had no intent to commit a crime.

Mayberry faces a maximum sentence of more than eight years in state prison.
