Carolyn Marie Farnham, for 25 years the producer of Santa Monica’s Symphonies-by-the-Sea, died of cancer Sunday at St. John’s Medical Center. She was 63.
Mrs. Farnham, who also was chairman of the Music Arts Society in Santa Monica and an active fund-raiser for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and UCLA, oversaw a municipally subsidized symphonic and operatic season at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
During her tenure the season grew from a series of simple recitals to full-blown operatic and concert productions for which there was never a charge.
Her survivors include her husband, Richards K. Farnham; two sons, Paul and Carl; her mother, Clara B. Bartlett, and four grandchildren. The family has asked that contributions in her name be made to the Cancer Detection Center, 303 S. Loma Drive, Los Angeles, 90017.
