Claim Filed in Police Shooting: A wrongful-death claim has been filed against the city by the wife and four children of Stephen Lloyd Dye, who was fatally shot by Huntington Beach police on May 26. Dye, 30, who died 18 days later, was shot once in the abdomen by Officer Bob Jeffrey. According to police reports, Jeffrey and Officer Doug Tallman answered a call about a drunk in a parked van in the downtown area. When the officers found Dye lying on the front seat and shined a flashlight on him, Dye then pointed a revolver at Tallman, according to police reports. Officer Jeffrey then shot Dye once. Greg Bosse, a Santa Ana attorney, filed the claim on behalf of Alice Dye, the victim’s widow, and the couple’s four children. Filing a claim against the city is a necessary first step before filing a lawsuit against the city.
