Child molestation and kidnap charges were filed Monday against the son of a former Northridge private school operator who is himself awaiting trial on child molestation charges.

Edwin A. Greenup, 29, of Granada Hills has been charged with one count of child molestation and one count of kidnaping. He allegedly grabbed a 3-year-old girl from in front of her parents’ Northridge home last week, Deputy Dist. Atty. Alex Kessel said.

Greenup is the youngest son of Campbell Hugh Greenup, who operated a private elementary school in his Northridge home until his arrest in April, 1984, on charges that he molested eight of his former students.

The elder Greenup is scheduled to stand trial in Los Angeles Superior Court on Sept. 3 on 21 counts of child molestation.

Edwin Greenup is being held in the County/USC Medical Center jail ward in lieu of $250,000 bail. Greenup was placed in the medical facility because he is partly crippled from breaking his neck on three separate occasions, Kessel said .

Greenup was arrested last Thursday after witnesses who saw a man kidnap the little girl pointed Greenup out to police as he drove by the apartment building in the 18000 block of Roscoe Boulevard where the little girl was abducted and allegedly molested.

Greenup, who could receive up to 15 years in prison if convicted, is to be arraigned in San Fernando Municipal Court today, Kessel said.
