The President’s Commission on the Bicentennial of the Constitution has decided that its discussions on how best to educate the public about the document will be held in private, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.

The first meeting of the commission, held July 29-30 at the Supreme Court, was closed to the public and a second meeting, scheduled for today in Salt Lake City, will also be closed, she said.

The major goal of the commission, created by an act of Congress with a $300,000 appropriation, is to inform the public about the Constitution and its importance in securing basic freedoms.
