San Clemente : City Council Approves Sewer Plant Work EIR

Share

An environmental impact report for an expansion of San Clemente’s sewer plant received City Council approval after City Atty. Jeff Oderman reassured council members that endorsing the report need not imply approval of the project itself.

The plan to expand the sewer plant at 380 Avenida Pico has been criticized by area residents as too costly and unnecessary. The project, which still requires Planning Commission approval, would cost San Clemente an estimated $36 million.

While Councilwoman Karoline Koester cast the lone vote against certifying the environmental impact report Wednesday, other council members, including former Mayor Ken Carr, approved the report after being told that despite their approval of the report, they can still kill the sewer plant expansion when it comes before the council.
