Airliner Lands on One Engine

Share

A twin-engine turboprop airliner en route from Los Angeles to Merced made an emergency landing at Fresno this morning after the propeller from the right engine tore off in flight and embedded in the fuselage.

A spokeswoman from Wings West Airline said first reports indicated that one of the 14 passengers on board suffered minor injuries. Federal Aviation Administration officials at the Fresno Air Terminal said that the mishap left the engine dangling from the wing and that the impact of the propeller caused sudden compression of the fuselage, but the pilot successfully managed a difficult landing without further incident.
