A Solano County deputy sheriff was shot to death and two men in a stolen van were arrested after a high-speed chase into Yolo County. Deputy Jose Cisneros, 42, Fairfield, a 14-year veteran, was killed with a shotgun blast as he got out of his patrol car to question the suspects, sheriff’s investigators said. The shooting occurred south of Vacaville. Cisneros was responding to a call from a resident who said someone was throwing objects from the van, which had been reported stolen earlier in the day. California Highway Patrol cars gave chase, pursuing the van for 26 miles at high speeds. At one point, a shotgun blast blew out tires on one of the patrol cars. The van drove into an almond orchard and the suspects surrendered John David Kirk, 18, Vallejo, was booked for investigation of murder. Deputies did not release the name of the other man, said to be in his 20s.
