Under the contract, Boeing will produce weapons control systems for 82 B-1B bombers. The offensive avionics system built by Boeing is designed to enable the aircraft to attack at high altitude or treetop level and deliver nuclear bombs and cruise missiles with pinpoint accuracy. The announcement followed the award of an $8-billion contract to Rockwell International two weeks ago to build airframes for the 82 swing-wing bombers, which will replace aging B-52s.
