Westlake Votes to Help Pay for Landscaping

Westlake Village officials have given preliminary approval to a landscaping plan intended to beautify their city’s only Ventura Freeway interchange.

City Council members Wednesday night agreed to split the cost of the $285,000 Lindero Canyon Road interchange project with the state Department of Transportation. City officials decided to use municipal funds for the work after learning that they faced a seven-year wait for landscaping if the state had to finance the project, City Manager James Emmons said.

Trees, shrubs and extensive ground cover will be planted next spring at the nine-acre site, Emmons said. Beautification of the remainder of the one-mile-long freeway stretch through the city will be considered after the interchange work is completed, Emmons said.
