An infected leg will prevent American swimmer Matt Biondi from attempting to win a record-tying fifth gold medal today at the University Games in Kobe, Japan.
Biondi, 19, of Moraga, Calif., who has anchored two relay teams to victory and won the 100- and 200-meter freestyles, was expected to anchor the 400-medley relay.
