Council Selects Developer for Caltrans Land

By a unanimous vote last week, the City Council approved the selection of Alexander Haagen Development Co. as the developer for excess Caltransproperty on Artesia Boulevard that the city intends to purchase.

The Manhattan Beach firm was recommended by the city’s project review team as the best of nine candidates who wanted to propose a commercialfor the site.The company owns and operates 30 shopping centers,including Manhattan Village in Manhattan Beach, the Silver Spur Town and Country Shopping Center in Palos Verdes and the Plaza Hermosa Shopping Center inHermosa Beach.

City Manager Ken Landau assured residents who were concerned about the project’s impact on the neighborhood that during the next sixth months, citizens opinion will be solicited through public hearings and developmentagreement will require City Council approval.
