San Dimas Approves Plan for Shopping Center, Business Park
The City Council has approved plans for a $30-million shopping center and business park that is expected to increase the city’s sales tax revenues by 25%.
The plans, submitted by Diversified Shopping Centers of Costa Mesa, include a 20-acre commercial center and a 30-acre business park on the northeast corner of Arrow Highway and Lone Hill Avenue.
City Manager Robert Poff said the city expects a $250,000 annual increase in sales tax revenue when the center is completed. The business park is expected to bring 1,000 additional workers and shoppers to the city, but will also draw more traffic, which will be the topic of an environmental impact study requested by the council.
The center will include restaurants, drug stores and a grocery store. The business park already has contracts with Bausch & Lomb and the Southern California Gas Co., Geffrey Wood, a partner in Diversified Shopping Centers, said.
The developer has been working with San Dimas on the project for about nine months. Construction is scheduled to start in November and should be completed by mid-1987, Wood said.
“The center will allow people to shop and eat in San Dimas instead of having to go out of town, which has been one of the biggest complaints of our residents,” Poff said
