A vice sweep in downtown San Diego Friday evening by police and Navy personnel resulted in 18 arrests on drug and prostitution violations.

Uniformed Navy volunteers served as decoys in the crackdown on drug dealers and prostitutes who target enlisted personnel on paydays, police said.

The sweep, requested by the Navy, focused on the area near Broadway and Fifth Avenue, “which most of your first-time liberty personnel frequent,” said police spokesman Bill Robinson.
