Interstate 5 Travel Center to Be Built

Share

Completion is scheduled for next July on the Ridge Travel Center, a $13-million complex at Interstate 5 and Frazier Mountain Park Road that will be managed by Greyhound Food Management Inc.

Located two miles north of Gorman, the 102,000-square-foot project is the first phase of a development by general partners Lee Walters and Irving C. Jordan. The second phase will be a commercial development fronting on Frazier Mountain Park Road, and the remainder of the 251.4-acre parcel will be for residential development.

The travel center will consist of a 135-seat restaurant, a coffee shop, a 100-room motel, truck and car fuel areas and other facilities on the heavily traveled interstate highway. “We expect a volume of about $1.25 million a month and gross sales of about $15 million the first year,” Walters said.

The project will be the flagship of Greyhound’s entry into the truck stop and travel center management field, according to Ellzey Martin, special markets director of the wholly owned subsidiary of Phoenix-based Greyhound Corp. The firm already manages eight major truck stops around the nation.
