Need for Fair Housing

Share

Congratulations on the article “HUD Aide Touts Anti-Bias Testing” (Aug. 25) detailing Deborah Gore Dean’s efforts to have HUD provide $10 million for private fair-housing programs throughout the nation by the passage of the Fair Housing Initiatives Plan.

As a member of the Fair Housing Congress, which handled 1,631 housing inquiries and complaints in 1984-85, we know that much still has to be done here in Los Angeles to counteract the practices which make it possible for the protected classes to face a 42% chance of experiencing discrimination when buying a home and a 72% chance when renting.

We urge all responsible Americans to contact their representatives to make the HUD FHIP program a reality now.
