Dallas Cowboy Coach Tom Landry confirmed that Danny White will start against the Washington Redskins in the team’s NFL opener Monday night, barring any last second problems with a rib injury.

“I think he (White) will be healthy and ready to play and if he is I’ll start him,” Landry said.

White missed the last two exhibition games with a torn cartilage in his left rib cage.

Gary Hogeboom, who threw two touchdown passes in Saturday night’s 20-10 victory over the Houston Oilers, was told by Landry on Monday that White would start.

“I told Gary and I think he understands,” Landry said. “Of course, he wants to be a first stringer, but he didn’t ask to be traded. I just explained to him what was going on.”
