Sheriff’s deputies are searching for the pilot of a small plane that crashed Wednesday morning near Julian.

Three passengers walked away from the crash uninjured. The pilot fled into the woods surrounding the crash site when sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Sheriff’s deputies said the pilot may have fled because, according to the plane’s passengers, he was a student pilot unlicensed to fly with passengers.
