The state Senate Rules Committee appointed San Francisco attorney Duane Garrett to the California Coastal Commission. Garrett will replace George Shipp III, whose term expired. A Democrat and life member of the Sierra Club, Garrett is a founding board member of the League to Save Lake Tahoe and sits on the board of the California League of Conservation Voters. He was national co-chairman of the Mondale for President campaign. Senate President Pro-Tem David Roberti (D-Los Angeles) said Garrett will “bring new vitality and intellect to the effort of protecting both the California coastline and the integrity of the coastal initiative.”
