San Diego State University set an opening day attendance record for the second year in a row.

Figures tabulated Wednesday showed that 34,387 students enrolled for fall classes----540 more than in 1984.

SDSU spokesman Rick Moore said an unusually large freshman class accounted for this year’s record enrollment.

Of the 34,387 registered students, 7,000 are freshmen. The capacity enrollment has led to crowding problems on campus Construction of a parking garage of Montezuma Road has eliminated 350 parking spaces.
