The world chess championship was recessed until Tuesday as defending champion Anatoly Karpov took the match’s first time out Saturday, the Soviet news agency Tass announced.

Challenger Gary Kasparov won the first game of the title match, and the second game ended in a draw Friday on the 65th move. He now has 1 1/2 points to Karpov’s one-half point.
