Transportation Hub Dedicated in Santa Ana

Santa Ana officials and residents will dedicate the $17-million, seven-acre Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center this weekend with an Amtrak train playing a special ribbon-breaking role.

The five-story center, at 1000 E. Santa Ana Blvd., is expected to serve more than 500,000 train passengers, buses of Greyhound, Trailways, El Camino Real Express and the Orange County Transit District, airport shuttles, limousines and taxis. Festivities, with special displays, food concessions and music, will continue from noon to 6 p.m. today.

The center houses businesses, conference rooms and has leasable office space. Archiplan Urban Design Collaborative and the Blurock Partnership were concept and construction architects, respectively,and the Ray Wilson Co., was the contractor.

Santa Ana city and redevelopment funds provided $10.4-million of the funds for the center with $2 million from the U .S. Department of Transportation and $4.5 million from the California Department of Transportation.
