Family Style pulled away in mid-stretch to win the $437,000 Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes, the richest race ever held at Hawthorne Race Course in Chicago.
Ridden by Laffit Pincay, the winner covered the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:18.
Deep Silver finished second, four lengths ahead of Pamela Kay, in an eight-horse field of 2-year-old fillies.
Family Style paid $3.40, $2.60 and $2.20 and earned $250,200 for her owner, Eugene V. Klein, former owner of the San Diego Chargers.
“This has to be just about one of my biggest days in racing,” Klein said. Earlier in the day, Ladie’s Secret, his 3-year-old Secretariat filly, defeated older female rivals in the $100,000 Maskette race at Belmont Park.
