GILBERTOWN, Ala. — A 14-hour fire that erupted when a man lit a cigarette lighter to search for a friend who fell into an oil storage tank caused at least $500,000 in damage, an official said Sunday.
Rescue workers were unable to find the body of the man, who fell into the tank Saturday when two couples reportedly sneaked into the Hunt Oil Co. facility to explore the area.
