Bradley Lobbies for Metro Rail

Share

Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley today joined an intense Capitol Hill lobbying effort to save federal funding for the proposed Metro Rail subway in the face of rising controversy over tunneling through areas of potentially hazardous underground gas. The mayor met with Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Los Angeles) who has threatened to fight the project because of safety concerns, but no compromise was reached.

Also today, Waxman won permission from the House Rules Committee to offer a special amendment to the Metro Rail funding bill when it goes before the full House, possibly Wednesday. The amendment would withhold additional federal funds from the project until the entire route is reexamined for safety by an independent panel of experts.
