Construction is expected to begin next year on a new $4.75-million police station southwest of the existing facility in the Arcadia civic center on Huntington Drive.

The City Council has been discussing a variety of projects in the area but a new police facility was considered most crucial, said Bill Woolard, planning director. He said the new building will be twice the size of the current one and provide improved facilities.

Other projects to be considered are a new or renovated city hall, a civic auditorium and a senior citizen center. The civic center site could accommodate all the buildings, but Arcadia’s budget could not, Woolard said.
