Share

National Park Service officials who have begun planning a mountain nature center for handicapped campers near Westlake Village have called for additional public comment on the project.

Comments will be accepted through Sept. 30 at the National Park Service office in Woodland Hills.

Development of the camp at a 160-acre site near Mulholland Highway and Decker Road in the Santa Monica Mountains will depend on the results of a combined-concept plan and environmental impact report, said Nancy Ehorn, assistant superintendent of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

A Santa Fe Springs-based group, Total Access Camping, hopes to build the $1-million barrier-free campground. It would feature wheelchair trails and special accommodations.
